Photos, videos, PDFs and any file, in one place
Private does not stop at photos.
In short
Latent is not only a photo vault. It stores photos, videos, PDFs and any other file in a single encrypted gallery, with nested folders, quick filters and sorting by date, name, type or size. Videos play straight from encrypted storage, and documents open in Quick Look, decrypted only in memory.
Key takeaways
- One grid for every file type, or filter by kind.
- Nested folders, grid or list, four sort orders.
- Videos stream from encrypted storage, never written out in the clear.
Why one vault for everything
The documents people most want to keep private are often not photos: a passport scan, a medical letter, a contract, a payslip. A vault that only accepts images pushes those files back into the Files app, unprotected.
Finding things
- Quick filters — All, Photos, Videos, Documents, Others — that remember your last choice.
- Nested folders.
- Grid or list view, sorted by date, name, type or size.
- Pinch to change thumbnail size, drag to select many items at once.
Viewing without leaking
Photos open full screen with the gestures you already know: swipe between items, double-tap to zoom, pull down to close. Videos are decrypted as they play and resume where you stopped. PDFs and documents open in Quick Look, decrypted temporarily in memory and never written to disk in the clear.
Thumbnails are encrypted too
Thumbnails are generated at import and stored encrypted, like the files themselves. A gallery that encrypts originals but leaves readable thumbnails behind has leaked the photos already.
